Return of the Icons

As part of our ongoing Return of the Icons campaign we present the #returnoftheiconschallenge.

AFFORD’s Vikas Malik together with musical maverick Alain “Fusion” Clapham have teamed up with Black Umbrella and we invite leading artists to create works that bring to life the story of displaced statues, paintings and other ancient pieces of African history.

Our #ReturnOfTheIconsChallenge will encourage young people to have their say on the return of stolen African artefacts held in British museums and leave a lasting legacy for future generations.

Time For Some Action

To help craft the first chapter of the #ReturnOfTheIconsChallenge, Fusion has kindly donated use of his ‘Remembrance’ riddim – an instrumental gem lifted from the hip hop producer’s audio archive. Released some 15 years ago to provide the soundtrack for UK lyricist Wan Cee’s coming of age tale; we now invite you to use the soundtrack to sing, emcee, paint and use spoken word so you can tell the tale of an artefact you would like to pay homage to and return to its homeland.

Let’s build an audio archive of antiquities and raise awareness of the many missing pieces that will find their way home with your help. AFFORD us the opportunity to make a difference – use your voice!
